Robert Henry Veno II, 56

Robert Henry Veno II, of Wayland 56, formerly of Ashland, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2019 surrounded by his family and friends, after battling Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) for two years.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Meg (Mitchell).  They were friends in grade school, lost contact, but reconnected at their 20th high school reunion to spend the last 18 years together.

Bobby, as he liked to be called, was born September 5th, 1963 and raised in Ashland, the son of the late Robert and Shirley Veno of Ashland and Falmouth.

He was a talented hockey player, being recruited by St. Mark’s High School, Southborough, to play for three years. He transferred to Ashland High School and graduated in 1981.

Bob then received a BBA in 1985 from U Mass, and an MBA from the College of William and Mary in 1997.

While in graduate school he was selected to do an internship with Credit Suisse Bank in London.

In 2001 he was awarded the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Charter.  A second Masters in Finance was awarded from Boston College in 2009.  Bob spent over 30 years in the banking and investment industries.  His most recent position was with the FDIC as a Senior Complex Financial Institution Analyst.

Bob also had many outside interests.  His favorite sport team was the Boston Bruins but he was also an avid college (SEC) football fan and relished traveling to games and tailgating with friends.  He loved the ocean and especially enjoyed his favorite places, Hawaii and Bermuda.  Smitten with the beauty of Hawaii, Bob fell in love with the island culture and “aloha spirit”.  His dream was to retire to Oahu and spend his days enjoying the sun, sand, and surf.  He also fell in love with the music of Hawaii so learned to play the ukulele.  A music aficionado, Bob’s favorite music included reggae, disco, and anything from the 80’s.  He had an extensive vinyl music collection and enjoyed hosting dance jams with friends in the basement tiki bar he built.  Another favorite destination was Wild Harbor in Falmouth where his parents had retired.  He loved to run on the beach as well as host BBQs for his friends where he was an accomplished grille master.

In addition to his wife; Bob is survived by his uncle; Bob Wilson and his wife Elaine of Uxbridge, MA; aunt; Nancy Wilson of Center Harbor, NH; aunt; Ethel Kelly of Watertown, MA; uncle; Joe Veno of York, ME; a large in-law family, several nephews, and many close friends.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, November 15 at 10 AM in St. Matthew’s Church, 26 Highland St, Southborough.

Calling hours are Thursday from 3-7PM at the Matarese Funeral Home, 325 Main Street, Ashland.
