FRAMINGHAM – In this week’s news cycle, we observe a level of ignorance displayed by individuals within our community that is nothing less than shocking.
What is worse is that parents, who have entrusted their children to Framingham Youth Football & Cheerleading, an independent organization not directly related to the City of Framingham, have seemingly been let down.
While the behavior of the recently terminated “coaches” is reflective only of their own abhorrent views, the admission by President Jason Smith that he was alerted to some of this activity over a year ago in October of 2018 and that he withheld this information from the Board until this week is completely unacceptable.
His inaction has put our children at risk as they have been exposed to individuals whose behavior indicates they should not be allowed to work so closely with Framingham youth.
The City of Framingham is a diverse community and the behavior exhibited by these former coaches is not reflective of our values.
The firing of the coaches alone is not a sufficient remedy in this case. I look forward to hearing from the Board quickly as to the findings of their investigation and about the measures being taken to ensure there is in fact zero-tolerance for this kind of behavior within the organization going forward.
