FRAMINGHAM – The 8th grade Framingham Youth Football team faced their opponent from 2 weeks ago, Brockton, in the 1st round of playoffs for Baystate AYF football.
Brockton beat the Flyers 28-16 before and the Flyers were looking for revenge.
Unfortunately, the Flyers lost 34-28.
The first quarter saw the Flyers have a turnover on downs and then Brockton, taking their time, running the ball down the field ultimately resulting in a turnover on downs at the beginning of the second quarter.
On the Flyer’s possession, the Raiders were able to strip the ball and run it in for a touchdown but unable to convert, so the score was 6-0 Brockton.
On the Flyers next possession, Max Stevelman had passes to Jacob Fritz and Kymani Melendez-Smith. The drive culminated in Will Claude running the ball into the end zone for a touchdown, bringing the score to 6-6.
Brockton retaliated by having a successful drive culminating in a touchdown. The half ended with a 12-6 Brockton score.
The second half started with the Framingham defense holding their own against the Raiders, finally bringing them to a turnover on downs.
On the punt, Framingham incurred a “roughing the kicker” penalty, giving Brockton the ball back for a 1st down. Brockton was able to score a touchdown on the next run and had a successful kick. The score was 20-6 Brockton.
Nate De Oliveira had a big run and Brockton incurred an “unnecessary roughness” penalty bringing the Flyers into the Red Zone.
Will Claude was able to run it in, bringing the score to 20-12.
Brockton was able to score another touchdown and kick quickly, bringing the score to 28-12. The Flyers had another turnover on downs and the end of the third quarter saw Brockton working their way down the field.
After numerous penalties on Brockton and eating up a large portion of the fourth quarter, Brockton scored on a pass. The Flyers were able to block the point after touchdown kick so the score was 34-12 with 5 minutes left in the game.
On the first play of the Flyers possession, Will Claude ran a 75-yard touchdown and Wendell Oquendo got the ball through the uprights so the score was 34-20.
The Flyers didn’t give up but tried an unsuccessful onside kick.
Brockton gave the ball back to the Flyers with 3:20 left in the game.
Will Claude had a number of successful runs and Max Stevelman was able to run it into the end zone. Oquendo had another great kick, bringing the score to 34-28 Brockton at the very end of the game.
The 8th-grade team had a great season and went out after a hard fought game.
Over half of the team has been playing together for at least 5 years so this game was the end of a chapter.
