MassBay to Host Commonwealth’s Only College Application GEAR UP Event

WELLESLEY – MassBay Community College will host a Massachusetts College Application Celebration (MCAC) GEAR UP event, on Wednesday, October 30.

The event will be at the Wellesley campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on October 30.

GEAR UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs and is a nation-wide initiative to encourage more young people to have high expectations, stay in school, study hard, and take the right courses to go to college.

Guests attending MassBay’s event will have the opportunity to work with admission counselors to submit applications to any college, including being accepted on-the-spot to MassBay.

“MassBay is the only college in Massachusetts hosting a GEAR UP event this fall—we’re so pleased to be providing this important service to our community,” said MassBay Admissions Director, Alison McCarty. “Our staff is very knowledgeable about many colleges because so many of our graduates transfer to four-year schools. We are very happy to share our expertise.”

The goal of this event is to give every graduating senior the opportunity to complete at least one application by the conclusion of the celebration.

Some students find the application process daunting or simply procrastinate on getting started, sometimes resulting in the student missing application deadlines.

This event is specifically designed to provide the guidance and support students need to complete a college application.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, over the past 12 years, GEAR UP Massachusetts has helped more than 10,000 students chart a path toward high school graduation and college success.
