The following is a press release from the City of Framingham, published as received.

FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham announced it was awarded a $222,018 Green Communities Competitive Grant to fund a variety of energy conservation measures across 18 municipal facilities including an HVAC system renovation, implementation of energy management systems, LED retrofits, HVAC insulation, and improvements to the efficiency of air handler units.

Projects completed through the grant are expected to save over 150,000 kWh of electricity and 9,600 therms of natural gas each year, amounting to annual reductions of over $33,500 in energy costs and 100 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent – a CO2 emissions impact comparable to reducing gasoline consumption by 11,252 gallons annually.

In addition to providing energy and cost savings, these projects are expected to improve lighting quality and/or HVAC system performance for the employees and visitors of facilities such as Fire Station #1, Fire Station #7, Stapleton Elementary School, Juniper Hill Elementary School, Walsh Middle School, and the maintenance and recreational facilities at Cushing Memorial Park.
