Flyers Shut Out Tigers in Home Opener

FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham boys varsity soccer team defeated the defending league champion Newton North 2-0 at home today, September 10.

“Senior captain Ben Oberg was the difference in the game coming up with multiple big saves in net,” said Coach Jon Wood. “He controlled the penalty area and was outstanding all around.”

The Flyers went up 1-0 in the first half, when sophomore John Halpin deflected in a corner kick from Chris Lopez.

The Flyers put the game away late in the second half when Anthony Moraga composed himself in the box and placed it past the Newton North goalie.

“Junior Abe Loreto and senior Gray Pierson were standouts on a defense that earned its first shutout of the year,” said Coach Wood.

Framingham is now 2-0 on the season, having won both its season and home openers.

The Flyers travel to Wellesley on Thursday to face the defending Eastern Mass champion Raiders at 3:45 p.m.
