FRAMINGHAM – For the second year, Framingham Public Schools is hosting a back-to-school picnic for families.
The event this year is at Bowditch Field and not Farm Pond.
The event is FREE. Families are encouraged to bring blankets, chairs and food.
Yesterday, the public school district announced a time change due to the high-level threat of EEE, with mosquitoes.
The event will now be from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and not until 7 p.m.
The state Massachusetts Department of Public Health provided the Framingham Health Department with guidelines that include the curtailment of outdoor activities starting from dusk.
As such, all outdoor activities should end no later than 7:30 pm, including event clean-up and therefore the event will end at 6:30 p.m.
For outdoor activities before 7:30 pm, we strongly recommend the use of protective clothing and appropriate insect repellent for exposed skin.
Event parking will be available in the Framingham State lot on the corner of Dudley and Franklin and at 550 Union Avenue, as well as, at the Perini lots on Mt. Wayte Avenue and the corner of Mt. Wayte Aveue and Franklin Street.
The Callahan Senior Center parking lot will be designated as Accessible Parking for those who need it. This lot is located right next to Bowditch Field. Drop-Off / Pick-Up can be either in the parking lot or the sidewalk directly in front of the Callahan Center. A parking pass or placard will be required to enter this parking lot. For safety reasons and due to the high pedestrian traffic no on-site parking, drop-off or pick-up will be allowed at Bowditch Field for the Back to School Picnic.
VIP Parking as been reserved in the Perini lot on the corner of Mt. Wayte Ave. and Union Avenue.
Event Shuttles: The details are currently being worked out, but there will be a shuttle to and from the event for residents on the north and south sides of Framingham.
This will be an accessible bus offered at no cost to the riders.
Shuttle pick-ups will begin at 4:15 p.m. and the last shuttle leaving Bowditch Field will depart at 6:45 p.m. Shuttle stops will be shared as soon as they are confirmed, said the school district.
