Framingham Man Arrested on Mayhem Charge After Hammer Assault

FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Police were called to a fight just after 8 p.m. on Saturday at the shelter on Merchant Road.

Police arrested Dane E. Howard, 54, of 3 Merchant Road and charged him with mayhem and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon.

He was swinging a hammer and struck another man at the shelter in the face with the claw of the hammer, according to Framingham Police Lt. Patricia Grigas.

The victim was transported to MetroWest Medical Center, said Lt. Grigas.

Howard was arraigned in Framingham District Court on Monday. Judge Elizabeth Cremens held him without bail, pending a dangerousness hearing on Wednesday.
