UPDATED: 5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: Tuesday, August 6

1 The City Council’s ad hoc Callahan Center Committee is scheduled to meet today at 4:30 p.m. in the Memorial Building.

2. The MetroWest Chamber of Commerce, with the Ashland Business Association, the Holliston Business Association and the Hopkinton Chamber of Commerce is having a BBQ at the MetroWest YMCA Outdoor facility in Hopkinton tonight for members. The BBQ is 5:45 to 8:15 p.m.

3. Today is National Night Out. The Framingham Housing Authority is hosting an event for its residents tonight. The Mayor is expected to attend. The City of Framingham has no events planned for National Night Out.

Yesterday, according to the Mayor’s public schedule,  she attended the BU INITIATIVES ON CITIES: Vanguards In Urban Planning: Transforming Vancouver, Toronto, & Minneapolis in Boston.

She also attended the funeral of a retired Framingham Police Sgt.

4. Artist Kira Seamon will run a workshop today and in two weeks host the library’s first-ever Art in Bloom event. Art in Bloom is about creating floral the library’s arrangements that interpret art.

Registrants for today’s workshop will have the opportunity to create arrangements from donated flowers under Kira’s guidance. The first workshop is today from 2 to 4 p.m. at the main Framingham Library in downtown Framingham.

The arrangements will then be on display throughout the Library, later this month.

A generous grant from the Framingham Cultural Council to Kira will cover the cost of the flowers.

5. All three of the City’s beach will be open today from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beach tags are needed for access or you can purchase a one-day pass for $3 per person.
