NATICK – Natick Public Schools announced today, August 5, that a former Framingham Elementary School principal will be the interim principal for the Lilja School.
Former Wilson Elementary School Principal Robin Welch will lead the Natick school in 2019-2020.
Welch has been an educator for more than 40 years.
During that time, he has taught children in grades four through eight as a classroom teacher and as an Educational Technology Specialist. He also taught preschool at the YMCA. He received his BS in teaching from Framingham State College and his M.Ed. in Computer Education from Lesley College.
Welch served in a variety of administrative positions after leaving the classroom.
He began as an Assistant Principal in Brookline, followed by Principal assignments at the Tucker Elementary School in Milton, and the Claypit Elementary Hill School in Wayland.
Recently, he retired as Principal of the Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Framingham after 14 years at the helm of that school.
Welch also served as served as Project Manager for a program for underprivileged and academically challenged minority and second language males entitled 100 Males to College at Framingham State University, Framingham.
Welch serves on the Board of Directors for Jewish Family Services (JFS) of Metro West.
He also sits on the Framingham State University Alumni Board and the Amazing Things Performing Arts Center board, of which he the former Chair.
He served as the Chair for the National Principal’s Leadership Network (NPLN), which is affiliated with the Stone Center at Wellesley College and Brown University.
He is the Past President of Learning Disabilities Worldwide (LDW) and is currently their Chief Operations Officer.
Mr. Welch received the Thomas C. Passios Award, The National Distinguished Principal Award, and was recognized as Massachusetts Principal Of The Year in 2005 by the Massachusetts Elementary Principals Association (MESPA). He also received the National Distinguished Principal Award from the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) and the United Stated Department of Education the same year.
Welch has also performed in numerous professional, semi professional and community theatrical productions throughout Massachusetts, New York, and Connecticut. He has been a featured actor in television broadcast and commercials throughout New England. Welch has also directed, produced, and choreographed numerous children’s theater productions over the years.
Welch has been a keynote and/or featured guest speaker at colleges and educational conferences throughout Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Texas, California, and Washington D.C. Presentation topics include educational leadership, educational technology, innovative practices in the classroom, Response to Intervention (RTI), connecting technology to the curriculum, and serving the needs of students with learning challenges. Welch has also served as a motivational/inspirational speaker at a variety of conferences and workshops.
