As per the SOURCE election policy, the following is an election announcement by Christine Long. It is published as received. Unless there is a need for a primary, the election will be held in November 2019.
FRAMINGHAM – I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Framingham City Council District 1.
I am committed to continue to work hard for Framingham in a new role and will always strive to improve government processes that in turn benefit residents of Framingham.
As a prospective councilor, I pledge to work with my fellow councilors to provide a thorough review of the municipal budget while using sound business practices to make reasonable financial recommendations that ensure Framingham allocates proper funding to the important essential services that our residents depend on. These services – Schools, Public Works, Police, Fire and others provide a high quality of life. At the same time, we need to create an environment that attracts and encourages current and potential businesses to partner with Framingham to upgrade and grow our commercial base. City government should motivate businesses to select Framingham as a place to locate.
I have worked in the construction industry for several decades as a construction manager and former business owner and have a clear understanding of economic development and its relationship to our commercial tax base.
I have worked in both the private and public sectors and currently am employed as a Capital Improvement Manager for a State agency. I am serving in my fourth term as a volunteer on the Planning Board and currently continue as the Chair.
As a single mother of two grown daughters and Framingham home owner since 1998, I understand the stress that continual increases in real estate taxes and rate fees place on property and business owners. It is imperative that financial expertise be applied to our municipal government so that Framingham tax and rate payers are allowed to stay in their homes and retain their businesses particularly since ownership of a home or business is the most significant investment in our community that they will make – we must support them.
Consequently, Framingham now needs change by electing those with bold leadership skills who understand business and financial strategies, and possess the ingenuity and experience to solve problems. This means planners who will work to promote constructive change and take action. I have a proven track record of working hard, setting and achieving goals and not being afraid to take a position when making difficult decisions.
I look forward to meeting as many residents in District 1as possible while I continue to walk neighborhoods and reach out to constituents.
I ask for your vote for City Council District 1 in the upcoming elections.
