Giombetti Wants Framingham City Council To Consider Loitering Ordinance for Downtown

FRAMINGHAM – City Council Chair Dennis Giombetti wants the 11-member Framingham City Council to consider a loitering ordinance for downtown.

In the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, there are loitering ordinances in several communities, including Cambridge, Everett, Somerville, and Springfield. However, some of these ordinances have been on the book for decades.

Recently courts have not been favorable to some loitering laws enacted.

The City Council voted Tuesday night to begin to look into the possible ordinance, including what specifically would be prohibited under the City of Framingham law, if passed.

Giombetti is considering the ordinance for downtown Framingham, due to issues of public drinking, public urination, and other issues in Burkis Square.
