ASHLAND – Saturday, June 22, the kickoff 5K walk at Ashland High School marked the first event organized by Jake’s Team.
Jake’s Team is a foundation named for Jake Silver, an Ashland High graduate, who passed away this February after a battle with Osteosarcoma.
More than $35,000 have been raised by the fund so far.
In addition to Jake’s Team, which will raise funds to research Osteosarcoma, the event saw the launch of Silver Siblings, a program to support the siblings of child cancer patients, and Kim’s Cases, which will provide satin pillowcases for child cancer patients.
The walk took participants from the high school, down route 135 to Stone Park, and back to see the dedication of a bench in the name of Jake and his friend PJ Ferrier, a fellow football player who passed away last December.
Going forward, Jake’s Team will hold cornhole tournaments and BBQ grill-offs, events inspired by Jake’s personal interests.
