FRAMINGHAM – Framingham Superintendent of Schools Robert Tremblay, Superintendent of Schools announced today, June 19, Dr. Marguerite Lackard as Principal of George P. King Elementary School.
She was one of two finalists to replace Jonathan Maynard, who is leaving after one-year as principal.
A long-time Framingham resident and active community member, Dr. Lackard is looking forward to the opportunity to utilize her years of experience to help support teacher growth and development, ensure that children are provided with skills and tools to put them in the best position to learn, and to build relationships with families that is based on collaboration, said a statement from the Framingham Public Schools.
“As we continue to define and implement our commitment to the integration of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, I feel fully confident that Dr. Lackard is the leader who can help us to champion this work,” said Tremblay, in a statement. “Her strong skills in these disciplines coupled with her ability to develop and nurture relationships within and among staff, families, and children, have solidified – for me – her candidacy for this position. I appreciate the feedback that was provided following the various meetings and forum events as this too was helpful in making my decision.”
Dr. Marguerite Lackard is currently a mathematics department head and mathematics teacher at Walsh Middle School in Framingham, where she has worked since 2000.
She was a You Are Special recipient in 2015 at the Salute to Framingham, and recently was named a Woman Making History NOW honoree by Framingham State University.
Prior to that, she was a Medical Consultant Boston Juvenile Court in Boston and a Pediatric Physician at Boston Medical Center in Boston.
A graduate of City College of New York, she earned a Bachelor of Science and pursued her Doctorate of Medicine at the State University of New York Health Science Center. She earned her Masters in Education from Cambridge College.
King Elementary School was established in 2014.
In its first year, the Hemenway Elementary Principal shared duties between the two schools.
Then Dunning Elementary princiapl Kim Taylor became Principal of King Elementary.
She left in 2018, and former Wilson Elementary Principal Maynard served as principal this 2018-2019 school year.
In the 2019-2020 school year. King will become a full k-5 elementary school.
