FRAMINGHAM – Ashley Mendes was the winner of the Framingham Cultural Council’s 2nd Annual Student Art Competition.
The winning art work is on display in the Costin room at the main Framingham Public Library downtown.
This year’s theme for the student art competition was kindness.
All submission drew inspiration or responded to the theme. Submission were original, new and had not been exhibited before.
Judges for the competition were Noelle Fournier who directs the art school at the Danforth Art Center at Framingham State University and Framingham State Professor Brian Bishop.
Mendes said she wanted “to show that two very different people could still show kindness to each other even if the world is against them.”
Second place was awarded to Sophie Brandt.
Brandt said her she wanted to “combine a skateboard and weightless feeling of water with the idea of spreading weightless kindness.”
Third place was given to Chris Kay.
Honrable mentions were given to Suyasha Athlun, Izzie Cole, and Chris Connolly.
Cole “combined a 3-D hand activity to connect to kindness because everybody matters and no one is perfect. Kindness holds people together.”
