BOSTON – Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker has named Gloriann Moroney to serve as the chair of the Massachusetts Parole Board, the agency within the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security authorized to grant parole and supervise parolees.

“Gloriann Moroney has distinguished herself during a professional career dedicated to protecting public safety in the Commonwealth,” said Governor Charlie Baker. “Her deep knowledge of criminal justice issues and experience as a manager make her very well suited to lead the important work of this board.”

“A veteran prosecutor of domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse cases, Gloriann is keenly aware of the many challenges that victims face after a crime, and I am very glad to have this perspective so well represented on the Board,” said Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito.

“Everyone who has worked with Gloriann knows that she is a consummate professional who is dedicated to her work and committed to the principles of fairness, justice, and accountability,” said Secretary of Public Safety and Security Thomas Turco. “She has been a great part of our public safety team and I am pleased that Governor Baker has elevated her to chair the Board.”

The seven members of the Parole Board are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Governor’s Council. Members are appointed for five year terms or to fill the unexpired term of a prior member. Board members serve on a full time basis. The Governor designates one member of the Board as the Chair, who acts as the executive and administrative head of the Board.

Moroney has more than a decade of experience as a prosecutor in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, where she served as Chief of the Child Protection Unit in addition to prosecuting serious domestic violence and sexual assault cases.

In 2016 she joined the Massachusetts Parole Board as general counsel and was promoted to executive director in 2018.

Governor Baker named her as a Board member in January of 2019.

A graduate of the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and New England School of Law, she was named to Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly “Top Women of Law” in 2014.
