Thefollowing is a media release issued by the city at 4 p.m.
FRAMINGHAM -The City of Framingham will locate its Department of Health’s administrative offices to City Hall and its health clinic in close proximity of City Hall.
No part of the Health Department will relocate to the Callahan Center.
The Health Department is being dislocated due to the Fuller School building construction project starting this summer.
The lack of viable options for a new location is a result of decades of decisions the town did not make regarding investment in our public buildings.
The Fuller School Building project forced the City to find an interim solution for a new location for the Health Department before it could put together a comprehensive plan for all facilities. Framingham began working on a new site for the Health Department since the vote of the Fuller School project in
The most fiscally responsible solution to relocate the Health Department was always to move to a municipal-owned property.
After a meeting with the Council on Aging and Framingham residents last week, the City’s biggest takeaway was the idea to split the health clinic from the Health Department’s administrative offices.
This idea made different options available.
The City is creating an RFP for the health clinic and intends to issue it Monday, April 22. Bids will be due May 6, and the City will make a decision mid-May.
The Mayor looks forward to working with the City Council to not only solve the challenge of relocating the Health Department in the short term but also creating a strategy for Framingham’s derelict buildings in the long term.
