Editor’s Note: SOURCE is profiling runners participating in the 2019 Boston Marathon, with ties to Framingham, Ashland, and Natick.
Hometown: Reading, PA. My wife, Lori, grew up in Framingham.

Is this your first marathon? No. I ran the Honolulu Marathon in 1995.
Is this your first Boston Marathon? Yes, this is my first Boston Marathon. I did run as part of the 100-year anniversary of the 1918 Military Relay Team last year (Framingham team).
Why run Boston? I have only been in MA for a little over 4 years. I have watched the race every year, and ran part of it last year as part of the Military Relay. Watching everyone who finished last year challenge themselves in the worst possible conditions made me want to some day run the full Boston Marathon. I am honored to have been selected to run for Team Framingham this year as a charity runner.
Which charity are you raising money for? I am raising money for Amazing Things Arts Center.

Why did you pick that charity? As Amazing Things Arts Center says, involvement in the arts is vital to our health and well-being. I like to draw and create things in my home. I was inspired by what they do in the local community and wanted to do what I could to help them continue their mission.
How did you first get into running? I ran all through middle and high school. After I joined the Army in 1984, I found that that I liked running longer distances to challenge myself.
Why do you like to run? Running relaxes me. I like that it also keeps me in good shape to keep up with my 6-year-old son, Rocco.
Tell me something about your training for the marathon: I am not good at sticking to a training plan. I like that Team Framingham and my friends help me to stay motivated and on track. I have met a lot of great people during my training for the marathon who I hope will be life-long friends.
What is your favorite cross-training activity: Rucking. I have done two BAA Tough Ruck events in honor of the fallen. Rucking allows me to test myself differently than normal or trail running.
How do you stay motivated when you don’t want to run? My military friends. They served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps. They know what to say to motivate me.
Music or no music when Running? If music, favorite song? No music.
What is your favorite pre-running meal? English muffin with butter or honey.
What shoes will you wear on Marathon day? New Balance Fresh Foam.
What is your goal for the 2019 Boston Marathon? Finish with my friends.
Will you wear anything personal or symbolic the day of the 2019 Boston Marathon? A black ring with a ‘RANGER’ insignia which I wear in honor of three of my Army friends who have passed away.
