Pepi (Priscilla) Chafitz, 78

FRAMINGHAM – Pepi (Priscilla) Chafitz, 78, of Framingham, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 7, 2019 at Lahey Clinic in Burlington.

She married Harvey I. Chafitz on May 27, 1962 in Boston, MA and they shared many great memories.

Soon after they were married, she traveled across the country with Harvey, who was an officer in the U.S. Army. Their first assignment was outside Anchorage, Alaska. While there, they experienced the Great Alaskan Earthquake of 1964, which registered a 9.2 on the Richter Scale.

After leaving Alaska and numerous other military assignments, they moved to Framingham in 1972, where many of their interests changed.

Pepi developed a love for reading, financial investments, and the stock market. She was also a news junkie, keeping up with all the latest national news.

One of her biggest passions became her affinity for Boston sports…especially her beloved Red Sox. She was fortunate to watch her hometown team win 4 World Series Championships. Her favorite memory may have been attending in person with Harvey all 4 home games of the 1975 World Series.

For their 25th anniversary, they went to Bermuda for the first of many visits. It was a place of unbelievable beauty, serenity, and warm friendships.

In recent years, her interests expanded towards fashion, particularly Burberry. She loved having her hair done, as well as her nails. Both were always kept impeccable.

Pepi’s financial interests went beyond following the stock market and she turned this interest into a fun vice, as she loved to play the slot machines. She and Harvey would travel frequently to both Las Vegas and the Connecticut Casinos. A few visits were VERY $$$ successful.

Pepi loved Broadway musicals and loved listening to soundtracks on long car rides to places such as Ogunquit, Maine and Newport, Rhode Island.

Pepi’s outgoing personality enabled her to make friends easily. She cared intensely for her family and friends, and always wanted to be updated on their lives and well-being.

Pepi was the beloved wife of Retired LTC. Colonel Harvey I. Chafitz for 57 years and was the loving mother to her son James of Framingham, and daughter Jennifer of Southbury, CT. She is survived by her brother Jonathan and his wife Barbara Beckwith of Cambridge, and a sister Gail Mazur of Cambridge, plus numerous nieces and nephews.

Born in Cambridge, Pepi was the daughter of the late Mildred and Manny Beckwith of Auburndale, MA.

A funeral service will be held Monday, March 11 at 11 a.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech St, Framingham.

A short burial service will follow at Edgell Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Department of Neurology at Lahey Clinic, 41 Mall Road, Burlington, MA 01805. Or to the charity of their choice.

Shiva will be held at the family residence from 4 to 7 p.m. through Wednesday, March 13.
