Doug Goldwait

Hometown: Framingham

Marathon Team: Metrowest YMCA

Is this your first marathon? No, this will be my 2nd marathon.

Is this your first Boston Marathon?  Yes.

Why run Boston?  I have lived in MA my whole life and celebrated on Marathon Monday. I’ve enjoyed watching the runners either in person or on TV. It has been a Lifelong Goal.

Which charity are you raising money for? Metrowest YMCA

Why did you pick that charity?  My family and I have been members at the Metrowest YMCA for 4 years. It has been an amazing place for us to enjoy as a family and be part of the community. Our daughters get so much out of all the sports, youth programs, and pool at the YMCA that I am honored to be able to give back to the organization.

How did you first get into running? About 3 years ago I ran a Sprint Triathlon with my cousins, and realized I enjoyed the training. I have been running and pushing myself ever since.

Why do you like to run? I have found that running is a great way to push myself, and achieve new goals, which gives me a sense of accomplishment.  I also have become accustomed to the endorphins running produces. It just makes you feel good!

What is your favorite cross-training activity: Stretching and yoga. It isn’t pretty, but it really helps boost my performance level.

How do you stay motivated when you don’t want to run? I think about the good feelings after my run vs. how guilty I’ll feel if I don’t run. I remind myself the harder the run, and the worse the weather the better the feelings afterwards. Everyone wants to feel good. It’s nice to know that you have control over it!

Music or no music when Running? If music, favorite song? Music. I am all over the place with the music, but lately have been skipping between Pandora 80’s playlists and 90’s jock jams lol.

What is your favorite pre-running meal? Multi-grain bagel, toasted with butter and a banana.

What shoes will you wear on Marathon day? Brooks – Adrenaline. They are amazing.

What is your goal for the 2019 Boston Marathon?   Anything under 4 hours would be great!

Will you wear anything personal or symbolic the day of the 2019 Boston Marathon? I will be wearing a YMCA Bib, with pride!
