PHOTO OF THE DAY: ‘It’s Fun To Have Fun, But You Have To Know How’

FRAMINGHAM – District 4 City Councilor Mike Cannon spoke before a well-behaved crowd today – a crowd of kindergarteners at Dunning Elementary School.

Cannon was one of many guest readers in the Framingham Public Schools on National Read Across America Day.

In May 1997, a small reading task force at National Education Association came up with a big idea.

They created a day to celebrate reading. Called “Read Across America” Day it was first held on March 2, 1998, on Dr. Seuss’ birthday.

Now in its 21st year, schools across the country, across the Commonwealth, and across Framingham today, celebrated reading.

Sporting a red and white striped Cat in the Hat hat, Councilor Cannon read the classic Dr. Seuss book Cat in the Hat published in 1957, before the Councilors and all of the kindergartners were born.

“And this mess is so big
And so deep and so tall,
We cannot pick it up.
There is no way at all!”

Across the City, District 3 City Councilor Adam Steiner read The Lorax, by Dr. Seuss at his alma mater Potter Road Elementary.
