Robert Young

Hometown: Natick

Marathon Team: Team Framingham

Is this your first marathon? No. This will be my 5th marathon

Is this your first Boston Marathon? No. This will be my 3rd time running Boston.

Why run Boston? I was born and raised in MetroWest Boston area and grew up watching the Boston Marathon runners go through my hometown of Natick. I always dreamt of one day running the Boston Marathon myself. The whole race is memorable but running through downtown Natick feels extra special to me.

Which charity are you raising money for? Jeff’s Place

Why did you pick that charity? The care, comfort, and support services that Jeff’s Place provides means so much to the children and families of MetroWest who have lost love ones. Being a small part of that mission means a lot to me.

How did you first get into running? I first got into running while serving on active duty in the United States Air Force.

Tell me something about your training for the marathon: Sometimes mile 6 can feel easier than mile 3 and mile 9 can come easier than 7. Learning to keep moving through the tough spots (and you don’t always know when they’ll show up) both physically and mentally is key

Why do you like to run?  Running relaxes me. After a good run, I feel more focused and present. Some of my best personal and professional decisions have been made either during or shortly after a nice long run.

What is your favorite cross-training activity? Running the trail at Callahan State Park

How do you stay motivated when you don’t want to run? Count the weeks/days to April 15th

Music or no music when Running? If music, favorite song? No music. It distracts my cadence, breathing and zen.

What is your favorite pre-running meal? Pasta

What shoes will you wear on Marathon day? Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18

What is your goal for the 2019 Boston Marathon? 3 hours and 40 minutes.

Will you wear anything personal or symbolic the day of the 2019 Boston Marathon? My Team Framingham t-shirt
