MetroWest YMCA Receives Land Donation For New Regional YMCA Facility

ASHLAND – Thanks to a generous 12.5 acre donation of land by Bob Gayner, the MetroWest YMCA now has the land needed to build a new regional full-service facility YMCA.

The future home of the new YMCA facility is located in a beautiful wooded area directly off Route 135 overlooking the Boston Marathon route.

“This Site, in the Ashland Rail Transit District, couldn’t be more perfect for locating a new Regional YMCA. It has easy access to Hopkinton, Holliston and Framingham from Routes 9, 135, 495, the Mass Pike and the onsite MBTA Commuter Rail Station. My son was born and brought up in Framingham where we were Y members,” said Gayner.

“I participated in YMCA fundraisers in the 70’s and 80’s when I founded Telephonic’s Corporation. Working with Y CEO, Rick MacPherson and Y Board Member, Faith Easter from the Law firm of Fletcher Tilton to finalize this transaction has been an absolute pleasure and I enthusiastically look forward to beholding the finished product,” said Gayner.

“We are very grateful to Bob Gayner for his tremendous generosity and to the Town of Ashland for pulling the YMCA into the fabric of their community with open arms,” says MetroWest YMCA President and CEO Rick MacPherson “This generous land donation, paired with the enthusiasm and dedication shown by our volunteers and community partners, brings us one step closer to making a full-facility YMCA in the region a reality.”

A time frame for building has not been determined as much planning will be required before a project of this scope can be launched.

Anne Madara, Board Chair of the MetroWest YMCA said “A Y is more than a
community center, it truly is the center of community and we look forward to working with the towns of Ashland, Holliston and Hopkinton to design a Y that will meet their needs for decades to come.”

The land donated is part of the Rail Trail Transit District, near the train station and Dunkin Donuts.

The MetroWest YMCA established in 1891 to serve the region continues to work each day to address the critical needs of the community through a variety of youth and family programs.

A new facility in this location will be a tremendous addition to the social infrastructure of the region and will impact tens of thousands of children
and families for generations to come.

The MetroWest YMCA on Old Conn path in Framingham will continue its operations.
