Ashland Woman, 27, Killed in Franklin Rollover Crash

FRANKLIN – A rollover crash on Route 495 Friday night in Franklin killed an Ashland woman.

The crash happened just after 8 p.m.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Joseph Durning indicates that a woman was traveling on Route 495 Northbound between Exit 16 and 17 in a 2011 Subaru Forester.

The Subaru was in the right travel lane traveling at a high rate of speed when, for reasons still under investigation, it veered into the middle travel lane where it struck a 2016 Toyota RAV4.

After striking the Toyota, the Subaru went out of control and went off the right side of the road, causing it to roll over and crash. 

The female driver of the Subaru,and sole occupant, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and determined to be deceased at the scene.

Massachusetts State Police identified the woman as Emily Smith, 27, on Saturday morning.

The driver and two passengers of the Toyota were uninjured.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation by Troop H of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and the Troop H Detective Unit.

State Police were assisted on scene by Franklin Fire and EMS and MassDOT.
