FRAMINGHAM – Daniel A. Sobey, 90, a longtime resident of Saxonville, died Tuesday morning, January 29, 2019, with his loving daughters by his side.
Born in Newton, he was the son of the late Arthur S. & Katherine M. (MacDonald) Sobey, and the beloved husband of the late Kathryn E. (Toole) Sobey.
A graduate of Newton High School, Daniel started his career in the printing business before he even graduated.
As was the case for many of his era, Daniel was drafted into the Army and served his country proudly during the Korean War.
Upon his return, he met his soon to be wife at a meeting for the Polecats Ski Club in Intervale, NH.
He and Kathryn settled in Saxonville in 1958 where they raised their family, and Daniel continued his career in the printing industry.
He loved to golf and ski, was an avid Boston sports fan, particularly the Red Sox. In his later years his five grandchildren lit up his life.
Daniel is survived by his daughters, Deirdre A. Temizer & her husband Dogan H., M.D. of OH, and Kathryn M. “Katie” Sobey of Framingham, his grandchildren, Serra K., William A, Leila M., Thomas D., and Rose P., his brother, Sterling “Suna” Sobey of East Boston, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife Kathryn, Daniel was predeceased by his sisters, Laura, Margaret Burke, Vera DeDoming, and Judy.
Family and friends will honor and remember Daniel’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framinghamon Friday, February 1 from 4 to 7 p.m.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning in St. George Church, 74 School St., Saxonville at 10.
Interment will follow in Edgell Grove Cemetery in Framingham.
