Mary (Morrilly) Gillens, 101

FRAMINGHAM – Mary F. (Morrilly) Gillens, 101, a longtime Framingham resident, died Saturday, January 5, 2019, after a period of declining health.  

Born in Fitchburg the daughter of Irish immigrants James & Agnes (Farrell) Morrilly, she was the beloved wife of the late Charles H. Gillens.

Mary was a graduate of Framingham High School, and proud member of the centennial class of 1939 at Framingham State College, where she was awarded a baccalaureate degree, and later taught 4th grade at the Hastings School in Framingham.

In 1943 Mary and Charles married while he was stationed as a lieutenant in Brownsville, TX, and returned to her family while he served in WWII.

After the war Charles continued his service and he and Mary lived in many states, and Japan during his career.

When retirement finally came, they settled in Westborough, and Mary resumed her teaching career as a long term substitute teacher at the Brophy and  Dunning Schools in Framingham. Mary and Charles were longtime parishioners of St. Luke’s Parish in Westborough.

Mary is survived by her beloved daughters, Mary P. McLean & her husband Richard of Damariscotta ME, Katherine Plummer & her husband David of Raymond ME, and Lucille Gillens of Bellingham, MA with whom Mary lived for several years, her grandsons, Christopher McLean, Timothy McLean, and James Plummer, and her great grandsons, Hale and Rory McLean, Besides her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by her brothers, John and James Morrilly.

Mary’s family would like to thank the devoted staff at Forge Hill Benchmark Senior Living in Franklin for their care and friendship over her 5 year stay, as well as the staff of Countryside Health Care Milford for their kind compassion during Mary’s brief time there.

Family and friends will honor and remember Mary’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham, on Thursday, January 10 from 4 to 7 P.M.

Her Funeral services and interment will be private.
