John Burdon Sewell, 78, Retired Naval Officer


ASHLAND – John Burdon Sewell, 78 of Ashland, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2018 with his family by his side after a long battle with cancer.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Judy (Bishop) Sewell, a son Mark Sewell and daughter Katharine Sewell Bourdeau, two granddaughters, Ashley and Catherine Moineau. He also leaves behind his sister Marianne Sewell Aiken of Eden, NC, and was predeased by his brother Granville Sewell.

John had a distinguished 20-year career as a US Naval officer and served during the Vietnam War.

John was an active member of the United States Power Squadron and member of the Navy Coasters Harbor Yacht Club in Newport, RI.

John also spent several winters as a volunteer at the Old Vero Man Archeological dig site in Vero Beach Florida.
