FRAMINGHAM – Joan T. (Ghilardi) O’Brien, 73, a longtime Framingham resident passed away at home, surrounded by family on December 21, 2018, following a long battle with cancer.
Born in Cambridge she is the daughter of Helen (Cote) Ghilardi and the late Alfred Ghilardi, and is the beloved wife of Robert C. O’Brien for more than 48 years.
Joan was a 1962 graduate of Notre Dame de Pitie High School in North Cambridge, and it was at a school dance that she first met her husband whom she married in 1970.
In 1973 they settled in Framingham and raised their family.
She worked for 43 years for Weather –Reps in Waltham.
Joan was the glue that held the family together, and loved family parties from Christmas to birthdays and everything in between. Family came first. Besides her husband Robert and her mother Helen, Joan is survived by her children, Robert A. of Framingham, and Amanda T. Conant & her husband Jacob of Webster, her siblings, Evelyn Gale & her husband David of Winchester, Alfred of Pepperell, and Mary O’Connell & her husband Robert of Hopkinton, and many nieces and nephews. A special thank you to her niece Jayne Lyons for all her support. She was predeceased by her brother Edward Ghilardi.
Family and friends will honor and remember Joan’s life by gathering for visiting hours in the McCarthy, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 11 Lincoln St. Framingham on Friday, December 28 from 4 to 8 p.m.
Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Bridget’s Church, 830 Worcester Road, Route 9 east, on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Interment will be private.
