LETTER: Framingham Must Explore Non-Lethal Solutions For The Beavers

FRAMINGHAM – I am writing to express my concern and strong opposition about the proposed culling of beavers in the city of Framingham.

From what I have investigated, this measure will only provide a temporary solution.

Body-crushing Conibear traps that have been approved for Framingham will subject these animals to slow, painful and cruel deaths. Framingham cannot permit that; we must be a humane city and should first explore other non-lethal solutions.

The Humane Society of the US for example has the resources to work with city officials on this issue and can help us find more humane, long term solutions.

Framingham residents have shown they care about animal welfare.

In 2016 Framingham residents voted overwhelmingly to pass Question 3 on improving the lives of farm animals. I urge our city officials to reconsider this proposal on behalf of humane treatment of our wildlife.

Respectfully,

Claudia Ruiz Gustafson
