FRAMINGHAM – With temperatures hovering around 10 degrees, not counting the win, Drew Harrod, 21, of Framingham was the first to cross the finish line in the 24th Annual Turkey Classic 5K road race Thanksgiving morning in Framingham.

The race was sold out, but with the temperatures sold cold, officially, there were 761 runners, according to the official timing.

Harrod, a graduate of Framingham High and a current Providence College student, comes from a family of runners. His official time was 16.51.3 minutes for the 3.1 mile course, which started and ended at the Memorial Building.

The Turkey Classic road race is organized by the Framingham Police Association and Framingham Fire Department Local 1652 in partnership with many local corporate sponsors.

Race raises funds the Veterans Outreach Center -MetroWest Chapter, who provide critical services to veterans of the MetroWest area

Harrod was almost 30 seconds faster than the second place runner Matthew Zanchi, 29 at 17:20.1 minutes. Aaron Ladd was third in 17:26 minutes flat.

Keefe Technical cross-country coach Jeff Beling, 28 was fourth in 17:49.2 minutes, with Patrick Daly, 28, fifth in 18:03.3 minutes.

Nine of the top 10 runners were men.

The top female runner was Jodie Conway, 42, at 18:23.4 minutes. She finished seventh overall.

Rounding out the top 10 were Sean Devlin, 44, in sixth place at 18:12.4 minutes.

McAuliffe Charter middle school student Sam Burgess, 13, finished eighth overall. Burgess recently qualified for a national cross-country race.

Framingham High graduate Alex Lowry, 19 Alex Lowry finished 19 overall in 18:49.7 minutes.

Billy Bowhill, 22, was 10th overall in 18:50.9 minutes.

Sarah Tully, 19, finished 12th overall and second overall for females in 19:11 minutes flat. Erin Lopez, was 16th overall, and the third fastest female in 19:16.7 minutes.

Twenty-two runners finished under 20 minutes this morning, November 22.

And 151 runners were under 25 minutes, for the 3.1 mile course. There were 393 runners under 30 minutes.

Trophies are awarded for the top overall finishers, male and female, and top runners in various age groups.
