Framingham Finishes 7th at South Sectional Meet; Trio of Divers Place in Top 16

CAMBRIDGE – The Framingham High girls swim and dive team finished in 7th place out of 15 teams at the MIAA South Sectional meet at MIT on Sunday, Nov. 11.

Framingham scored 179.5 points, to finish just behind Natick High with 186 points.

Wellesley High easily won the sectional meet with 352 points. Ursiline Academy was second with 255 points, Needham Rockets were third with 244 points. Bay State Conference teams Newton North with 234 points and Brookline with 194.5 points rounded out the top five teams.

Framingham started out the meet just how it finished the meet, with a seventh place finish in the medley relay.

Wellesley won the relay in 1:51.21 minutes. Natick’s swimmers were second in 1:51.31 minutes.

Framingham freshmen Meg DiPasquale and Laura Dube and junior Tatum O’Leary and Jillian O’Neil finished in 1:56.37 minutes.

Dube finished second on the individual medley event behind Boston Latin freshman Keira McGrath. McGrath’s time was 2:12.08 minutes. Dube’s time was 2:14.81 minutes.

Natick sophomore Helen Zhao finished eighth overall in 2:21.40 minutes Natick’s Sophia Wong was ninth in 2:22.04 minutes.

Framingham juniors Jessica Tosi and Caroline Mazariegos earned points for the Flyers finishing 15 th and 16th overall in 2:23.75 minutes and 2:23.81 minutes.

Natick senior Emma Yanovitch finished 23rd overall in the individual medley out of 33 swimmers in 2:26.29 minutes, a personal best this season.

Three Framingham divers placed in the top 16. Walpole freshman Amanda Melish won the diving competition with 488.50 points.

Framingham junior Sara Anastasi finished fifth overall with 404.30 points. Framingham sophomores Sarah Olson and Angela Burke finished 13th and 14th overall.

Needham’s Zoei Howard was the fastest out of 30 swimmers in the 200-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 1:54.87 minutes.

Framingham junior Marley DeSimone finished 10th overall in 2:04.10 minutes, a personal best this season. Framingham junior Suzanne Julakis finished 22nd in 2:09.11 minutes. Framingham senior Emily Rogers finished 24th in 2:11.21 minutes.

Howard won her second title of the meet in the 50-yard freestyle. She touched the wall in 24.30 seconds, the fastest time out of 37 swimmers.

Natick sophomore Samantha Fuchs finished 11th overall in 25.92 seconds. Framingham’s top swimmers was DiPasquale in 15th place in 26.14 seconds.

Framingham freshman Trinity Trainor was 20th overall in 26.45 seconds, a personal best this season. Junior Jillian O’Neil was 25th overall in 26.87 seconds.

Ursuline Academy’s Caleigh Wukitch, a junior,  won the 100-yard butterfly in 59.63 seconds, a personal best for her this season. Flyer junior O’Leary finished 7th overall in 1:02.92 minutes, a personal best this season. Junior DeSimone finished tied for 15th place in 1:05.73 seconds with Brookline’s Amber Mickelson. Framingham senior Casey Libuda finished 25th overall.

Wellesley junior Nellis Thompson won the 100-yard freestyle race in 53.92 seconds. Brookline senior Sara Song took second in 54.30 seconds, with Natick senior Sarah Doherty third in 54.36 seconds in third place.

Framingham junior Mazariegos finished in 9th place, dropping more than 2 seconds off her best time this season. She touched the wall at 56.90 seconds. Flyer Tosi finished 14th overall in a season best 57.72 seconds. Junior Julakis was 21st overall in 58.93 seconds.

Marshfield junior Riley Moeykens won the 500-yard freestyle in 5;11.46 minutes, almost 6 seconds ahead of the Notre Dame swimmers who finished in second place.

Natick sophomore Taykor Landurand finished 9th overall in 5:39.02 minutes. Framingham senior Rogers finished 14th overall in 5:44.07 minutes, a season best for her.

Flyers finished seventh in the sprint relay in 1:45.10 minutes. Swimmers were DeSimone, Tosi, Mazariegos, and Trainor.

Natick’s Doherty won the 100-yard backstroke in 59.39 minutes.

Framingham freshman Dube finished 5th overall dropping almost 3 seconds off her time to touch the wall in 1:02.29 minutes. Natick’s Wong was 9th overall in 1:03.67 minutes, a personal best this season.

Freshman DiPasquale was 11th overall in 1:03.94 minutes, a personal best this season.

Framingham senior Libuda finished 25th overall in 1:08.25 seconds.

Marshfield senior Olivia Mozoki won the 100-yard breaststroke event in 1:05.79 minutes, a person best time. Natick’s Helen Zhao dropped almost two seconds off her personal best this season to finish in fourth place in 1:10.98 minutes.

Framingham junior O’Leary finished in 9th place overall, dropping almost 4 seconds off her personal best this season. She touched the wall in 1:14.12 minutes. Flyer Arielle Shek had a personal best to finish 24th overall. Her time was 1:18.80 minutes.

And in the final event of the meet, the Flyers finished seventh in the 400-yard relay. On the team were juniors DeSimone, Tosi, Mazariegos and O’Leary. They finished in 3:49.61 minutes.
