WELLESLEY – Natick High senior Sarah Doherty won the Bay State Conference backstroke title yesterday, at Wellesley College.
Doherty’s dropped almost 3 seconds off her best time this season, to win the 100-yard backstroke event at the Bay State Conference meet.
Her time of 59.33 seconds, was just shy of the Natick High backstroke record set by Hana Batt last season at 59.07 seconds.
Doherty has qualified for the sectional and state meet, so she still has time to set the record for the Red Hawks.
Natick junior Abby Chen finished sixth in the backstroke at 1:04.89, which also qualified her for the sectional and state meet.
Doherty also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle event to Nellie Thompson of Wellesley.
Wellesley high, who went undefeated during the regular season, won the Bay State Conference meet on Sunday.
Natick’s A medley relay team finished in third place. Swimmers were Doherty, Sophia Wong, Helen Zhao, and Samantha Fuchs.
Red Hawk sophomore Zhao finished fifth out of 34 swimmers in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time was 1;12.96 minutes.
Sophomore Fuchs finished 8th in the 50-yard freestyle for Natick. He time was 26.09 seconds.
Wong finished 11th in the 100-yard butterfly for Natick in 1:06.70 minutes, a time that qualified her for the state meet. Teammates Mya Wilcox and Emma Yanovitch, swam times that qualified them for the state meet, but did not earn points for the Red Hawks on Sunday.
Wong also finished 10th in the individual medley event, with Chen taking 16th place and adding one point to the Natick team score.
Sophomore Taylor Landurand finished 13th in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:45.89 minutes. She also finished 11th in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.01 minutes, which qualified her for the state meet.
Natick sophomore Nanna Atake finished 16th for the Red Hawks to earn a point for the team. Junior Emma Kosvovich finished 19th out of 28 divers.
