FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham High girls swim & dive team closed out its regular season with a big victory over rival Natick High Friday night, October 26.
The Flyers defeated the Red Hawks 95-85.
Framingham finishes the regular season 7-5 under head coach Mike Foley. The Flyers were 5-4 in the Bay State Conference.
Next up for the Flyers is the Conference meet on November 4.
Both Natick High and Framingham High honored its seniors on the team in between the meet.
Framingham High seniors and captains are Sabrina Casey, Casey Libuda, Isabella Petroni, Andrea Ramierez-Franco and Emily Rogers.
Natick High seniors are Michaela Albert, Sarah Brogan captain Sarah Doherty, Carolyn Dye, diver Mackenzie Huff, Irene Pantekidis, Kayleigh Ramjug, diver Tara Sivak, captain Kaityn Wong, and captain Emma Yanovitch.
Framingham opened the meet taking first and third in the medley relay. Flyers Megan DiPasquale, Laura Dube,Carolyn Mazariegos, and Tatum O’Leary finished first. Framingham swimmers Jillian O’Neil, Arielle Shek, Suzanne Julakis, and Trinity Trainor finished in third place. In relays, only the top three teams earn points for a team.
Framingham finished 1-2 in the 200-yard freestyle event with juniors Jessica Tosi and Marley DeSimone. Natick’s Abby Chen was third in 2:09.13 minutes. Red Hawk Taylor Landurand was fourth in 2:09.40 minutes Framingham’s Rogers finished fifth in 2:10.63 minutes. In a meet, the top five swimmers earn points for their team. The top four in the 200-yard event qualified for the state meet. Rogers qualified for the sectional meet.
After two events, Framingham was ahead 21-9.
In the third event, Flyers freshman Dube won the event. Natick’s Helen Zhao finished second in 2:24.69 minutes. Both qualified for the state meet.
Framingham swimmer Mazariegos finished third, in a time that qualified her for the sectional meet. Natick captain Yanovitch was fourth in 2:32 minutes. Framingham’s O’Leary was fith in 2:26.13 minutes.
In the sprint event, Natick captain Doherty won the event in 25.91 seconds. Framingham freshman DiPasquale finished second. Red Hawk Sam Fuchs finished third in 26.62 seconds. The top three swimmers in the 50-yard freestyle had times that qualified them for the state meet. Framingham junior O’Neil finished fourth and Natick freshman Isobel O’Connell was fifth in 27.53, which qualified her for the sectional meet.
After four events, the Flyers were ahead 38-24.
Framingham swept the diving competition finishing 1-2-3. Junior Sara Anastasi won the event with 243.95 points. Olson was second with 269-41.12.60 points and Angela Burke was third with 209.45. Natick junior Emma Koskovich was fourth with 173.04. Red Hawk senior Huff was fifth with 166.35. Sivak finished sixth in her final meet.
After diving, Framingham was ahead 51-27.
Framingham’s O’Leary won the 100-yard butterfly, with fellow junior DeSimone second. Both their times qualified them for the state meet. Natick’s Yanovitch finished third in 1:07.31 minutes. Red Hawk Sophia Wong was fourth in 107.90. Framingham senior Libuda was sixth in 1;13.94 minutes.
Senior Doherty won the 100-yard freestyle in 56.28 seconds for Natick. Framingham’s O’Neil took second in 59 seconds flat, with fellow junior Julakis third. O’Connell finished fourth for Natick in 100.90 minutes. Flyer Shek was fifth.
In the distance event of the meet, Framingham’s Tosi won the event, Natick’s Landurand finished second in 5:46.81 minutes. Flyer Rogers was third, in a time that qualified her for the state meet. Red Hawk Michaela Grant was fourth, with Framingham sophomore Sabrina Tersoni fifth in 6:10.59 minutes.
Headed into the 200-yard relay, Framingham was ahead 79-47. Framingham finished first and third in that relay to take a 89-51 lead.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Mazariegos won the event, with freshman teammate DiPasquale fourth and senior Libuda fifth in 1:13.31 minutes.
Natick’s Wong was second at 1:06.59 minutes, with Red Hawk Chen third with 1:07.57. Both times qualified the swimmers for the state meet.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Flyer Dube won. Red Hawk Zhao was second in 1:14.81 minutes, in a time that qualified her for the sectional meet. Natick’s Fuchs was third, with Shek fourth.
