FRAMINGHAM – Going into Tuesday’s match, the Framingham High boys golf team knew they had to beat Milton in order to make it to the post-season tournament.
The Flyers also knew the last time golf team made it to the post-season was in 2015, when they were in the same situation of having to beat Milton in the final match of the regular season to qualify.
Back in 2015, by a slim 3 points under the leadership of then senior captain Max Ferrari, who went on to become the Division 1 State Champion that year, the Flyers won the match.
“Yesterday, the 2018 Flyers Golf Team accomplished the same goal but by a wider margin, beating Milton 102-86, under the leadership of senior captain Luca Ferrari, Max’s brother,” said head coach Will Cook.
“It seemed the team saved their best for last yesterday, scoring over 100 points for the first time this season,” said Cook.
The victory gave the Flyers a .500 record of 5-5-1, which is needed to qualify for the MIAA South Division 1 Tournament.
Senior Captain Luca Ferrari and junior Will Trischitta led the Flyers shooting 38, two-over-par at Framingham Country Club.
Trischitta made the shot of the day when he holed out from 100-yards for an eagle on the par 5 fifth hole.
Sophomore Trey Connolly shot 40, and junior captain Jack Corsi shot 41.
“I was really impressed with the players’ determination and focus yesterday, under the pressure of trying to qualify for the tournament,” said Cook.
