FRAMINGHAM – Mayor Yvonne Spicer has appointed Steven D. Trask as the City’s newest Police Chief.
Trask had been serving as the acting police chief since Ken Ferguson’s retirement as chief on April 27, 2018.
“According to Framingham’s Charter, Mayor Yvonne M. Spicer has provided notice of appointment of Acting Chief Steven D. Trask as permanent Chief of the Framingham Police Department subject to Council review and approval,” said a press release from the City.
The 11-member City Council has 30 days to approve or reject the appointment.
The position was never posted by the City on its website. It is unknown if it was posted internally only.
“I am grateful for this opportunity and feel humbled by the support Mayor Spicer has given me. I look forward to working with her and leading our Police Department. The men and women of the Framingham Police Department are among the finest in the profession and I am honored to be appointed as Chief,” said Trask, in a media statement.
“I am deeply honored to appoint Chief Trask as our permanent Chief of Police. He has demonstrated his dedication and service to the City of Framingham for over 30 years. In the past several months I have watched him step up to lead the department in a way that has built camaraderie, respect and enthusiasm. I am confident that our Police Department will flourish under his leadership,” said Mayor Spicer in a press release
Trask has served as a full time sworn police officer of the Framingham Police Department since 1987.
He has held numerous leadership positions within the Department over his 31 year career. Chief Trask has served as Deputy Chief since March 2006, and as Acting Chief on two occasions, November 2016 through March 2017, and since Chief Ferguson’s retirement, April 27, 2018.
Chief Trask possesses the exemplary experience, knowledge and leadership skills to capably advance the Framingham Police Department and public safety in the years to come, said a press release issued by the City just after 5 p.m. today.
