The following is a press release from the Jay Gonzalez campaign.
BOSTON – The Massachusetts AFL-CIO announced today, September 18, its endorsement of Democrat for Governor Jay Gonzalez.
The Massachusetts AFL-CIO, which represents 400,000 workers from over 750 local unions statewide, is the largest labor organization in the Commonwealth, and the campaign is honored by their support.
Steve Tolman, President of Massachusetts AFL-CIO, said he was proud to support Gonzalez because of his determined support for organized labor.
“The MA AFL-CIO is proud to endorse, support and work to elect our next governor, Jay Gonzalez. There is no better person to run the Commonwealth than Jay Gonzalez. He is experienced, passionate and dedicated to the needs of all the residents of Massachusetts and will be an outspoken advocate for working families,” Tolman said.
“Jay knows that government should work for the people, not for the business elite and wealthy special interests. The choice in this election is simple. We want a governor who will build up our infrastructure and make Massachusetts a state that values hard work, service and good government,” Tolman continued. “We don’t need another term of Governor Baker’s tired tactics, supporting big business and privatizing government at the expense of the public good. For these reasons and more, the MA AFL-CIO Executive Board unanimously voted to endorse Jay Gonzalez for Massachusetts Governor.”
“I’m honored to have the support of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO,” Gonzalez said. “The hardworking people of this Commonwealth deserve a Governor who will stand up for them.”
The role of the Massachusetts AFL-CIO is to serve as the unified voice of all organized workers in the Commonwealth and to be a voice for all working people, those in unions and those not yet organized. Their mission is to improve the lives of working families—by working for economic, social and racial justice in the workplace, in our communities, our state and in our nation. Their vision is of a fair and just society that benefits all working people, not a system that’s rigged in favor of the wealthy few.
