FRAMINGHAM – Alice P. (Higgins) Slattery, 86, a longtime resident of Framingham, passed away peacefully in the presence of family Wednesday Aug. 29, 2018.
She was the wife of the late William M. Slattery who died in 1972.
Born in Somerville, she was the daughter of the late Joseph C. and Alice (Downing) Higgins.
A reading specialist at the Woodrow Wilson School for 25 years, she earned her bachelors degree in 1953 and a doctorate degree in education from Boston College in 1989.
She was a devout and faithful Catholic who was a longtime and active parishioner of St. Bridget’s Church where she served in the Tabernacle Society. She also belonged to the Mary and Joseph Community, the Discalced Carmelite Secular Order, the Legion of Mary, Mass. Citizens for Life and the Boston Chapter of Encourage.
She is survived by her children: Mary Ann Waterman of Falmouth, Me., Jane Theriault of Lutz Fl., Nancy Leccese of St. Petersburg, Fl., Mark Slattery of Raleigh, NC, Katherine Slattery of Milford, Kevin Slattery of Holliston & Stephen Slattery of Kentucky. She was the mother of the late William Slattery and grandmother of the late Jack Slattery; and is also survived by her 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and her siblings: Eleanor Rodgers, Evelyn Beveridge, Joseph Higgins, James Higgins and John Higgins.
Visiting hours are Wednesday Sept. 5 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Boyle Bros. Funeral Home, 173 Union Avenue in Framingham.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday Sept. 6 at 9 a.m., at St. Bridget;’s Church, 830 Worcester Road in Framingham.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 990 LaGrange Street in West Roxbury.
