FRAMINGHAM – As you may know, our beloved State Representative, Chris Walsh, passed away recently, and Atty. Mike Gatlin, whose daughter once served as Chris’ legislative aide, is running to fill his seat.
I have known Mike for nearly 35 years and I have full confidence in his ability to superbly represent us in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Having represented Framingham myself as a state representative and state senator for 20 years, I feel that I have an informed sense of the qualities needed to successfully represent us on Beacon Hill and I am confident that, among the candidates for this office, Mike Gatlin has those qualities in greatest abundance.
As an experienced attorney, Mike Gatlin understands the Commonwealth’s laws, which will help as he works to draft them. As husband and the father of three highly professional adult children, he knows the joys and challenges of parenthood and the critical need for excellent schools. As a very long time resident and homeowner, he also understands why and how to keep our property taxes affordable and is committed to fully funding our senior citizen property tax “circuit breaker”, as a way to control taxes for our citizens.
Because of his many, many civic engagements in Framingham he was asked to serve on the Mayor’s Transition team. A few examples of these include: Board Member, Framingham State University; Chair, Economic Development Investment Corporation; Chair, Framingham
Downtown, Inc.; Member, Framingham Superintendent Search Committee, and many more.
Mike’s campaign reflects his passion for identifying and taking advantage of the many opportunities that Framingham has yet to fully realize. In working with our own Senate
President Karen Spilka, he intends to focus his efforts on what he calls “The four E’s”: the Economy (including infrastructure funding), Environment, including rail trail and efficient
transportation, Education, including early childhood education and state support for local schools and Elder Support, including more support for the Senior Circuit Breaker which provides state support for helping Framingham seniors with their property tax bills.
At this time, as Framingham is entering a new era as a city, we need a State Representative who has a deep understanding of and commitment to Framingham, a visionary leader who also understands the legislative process.
I trust Mike Gatlin to be all of these and I enthusiastically endorse him to be our next State Representative. Please write in: Mike Gatlin for State Representative on Tuesday Sept. 4.
