My wife Debby was the State Representative for the 6th Middlesex District for several terms. I saw first-hand, the experience and commitment needed to be effective in that role. The only candidate to have those traits is Michael Gatlin. Let me tell you why I believe that.
First, Framingham is a complex city, with a diverse population and a unique set of needs. To understand those needs requires years of involvement, working on behalf of all the people of Framingham. Mike is the only candidate that has that experience.
He is a long-term member of the Economic Development Industrial Corporation and is presently the chair. In this role, Mike brought together the different voices needed to generate the revitalization that is occurring in down-town Framingham. He also understands the important role the Brazilian community has played in keeping the downtown alive and promises that their needs will not be neglected.
He is also Chair of Downtown Framingham Inc., and is committed to ensuring the revitalization includes the arts, music, and small businesses needed for the downtown to be successful. He has and will continue to promote the economic growth of Framingham.
Mike has served on the boards of the Framingham Public Library and the Education Foundation, has served on the Superintendent and Barbieri principal search committees and was president of the Barbieri PTO. He supports the public schools and will work to make sure Framingham gets its fair share of education funding.
Mike served on the Mayor’s transition team and the transition By-Law Review committee. He understands the needs of the city and will bring that knowledge to Beacon Hill.
Mike and his wife Judy have been involved in many community and social justice issues over the years. He believes in the diversity of the city and will reach out to ensure that all voices are heard. He will stand up for the elderly. He will be transparent and honest and you will always know where he stands. He will do what is right for all the people of Framingham, even when it is not popular to do so.
Mike has already demonstrated success in all of the areas the other candidates are talking about trying to do. He will make Framingham proud, and that is why I will write in his name and mark the ballot for Mike on September 4. I hope you will do the same.
