LETTER: Atlantis Dental Donates $5,000 To Foundation For A Drug-Free World

FRAMINGHAM – As a longtime local business owner in this town-turned-city, I know firsthand the amazing things we are capable of. Framingham is a beacon of arts in MetroWest, with live concerts, exhibitions, theater, and dance happening year-round in our schools and our greater communities. We value sports and physical activity, too– Framingham runs and maintains 64 athletic fields, 16 tennis courts, 19 basketball courts, 2 running tracks, and more, available for all. We care for our neighbors in need, with dozens of organizations of all sizes providing crucial services to aid, and in many cases, save, those at risk.  We are home to the world’s largest study on heart health, and we continue to be a leader in medical research and treatment. We can transform from campaign central to historic district in the blink of an eye, and every inch of our city is brimming with stories and experiences to share. I couldn’t be more proud to live in a city like Framingham. But it’s the same reason why I’m writing to you today.

You see, as a dentist with a local practice in the heart of our downtown, I also know firsthand the issues that plague our city.

We are frontline victims in a public health epidemic, and we must prepare for what is bound to come. The opioid epidemic is nowhere near defeat, and I fear that we are not taking the steps necessary to protect ourselves and our youth. Every 12 seconds, a school-aged child tries an illicit drug for the first time, and every year, 210 million people, young and old alike, consume illegal substances. It is not healthy– that I don’t need to say twice– but more importantly, it is something we can prevent. We have the means and the ability to come together and fight the spread of illegal, dangerous drugs and keep harmful substances out of the hands of our children. If even one student is hurt by exposure to these dangerous substances, it is already too many.

Through my office, Atlantis Dental, I’ve chosen to make a $5000 donation to the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, an international nonprofit that provides high-quality, accessible resources about drug safety and abuse prevention. They have lesson plans and curriculum so teachers and educators can teach their students– our students– how to make safe choices with their bodies.

I love kids. They are our future. I know that the use of drugs is increasing in our world.

That is why I support organizations like Drug-Free World: to help fight this battle and keep drugs away from our kids.

I’d like to thank all our loyal patients who trust us with their treatment and support us so we can help them with this cause, and I urge you all to consider joining Atlantis Dental and myself in this contribution so we can come together and create a truly Drug-Free World.
