FRAMINGHAM – Framingham firefighters extinguished a small fire at a vacant gas station this morning, July 13, at the corner of Cochitiate Road and Speen Street.

“It was a small outside fire,” said Framingham Assistant Fire Chief Mike Dutcher.

“A homeless person squatting behind the building had made a make shift shelter behind the building and it some how caught on fire,” said Assistant Chief Dutcher.

The call came in around 9:15 a.m. Heavy black smoke was seen in the area and along the MassPike.

The fire never got into the structure, and was only the exterior, said the assistant fire chief.

There were no injuries.

Framingham Fire is still investigating the cause.
