Framingham Mayor Has Yet To Appoint Members To Zoning, Board of Health, and Conservation Commission

FRAMINGHAM – Mayor Yvonne Spicer submitted her selections for Framingham boards, committees, and commissions to the City Council on Friday, June 29, after 5 p.m.

“I am submitting for your consideration the first round of appointments to various boards and commissions as required under the Charter. I am submitting these appointments at this time to allow the Council sufficient time for review and action at the June 17, meeting,” wrote the Mayor to the Council.

Editor’s Note: The letter stated June but the meeting is July 17.

“This was a monumental task. The Charter required the appointment or reappointment of nearly every board and commissions formed over many years in Framingham,” wrote the Mayor.

The Mayor did not submit to the Council names for Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Commission, nor the Framingham Board of Health.

Editor’s Note: And as of today, July 9, those names have still not been submitted to the Council.

“This submittal does not include all of the boards and commissions requiring appointments or reappointments. In some cases, there are still interviews to be conducted and in other cases there are not enough applicants for a committee to have a quorum of members and therefor require more recruitment,” wrote the Mayor.

“I would like to publicly acknowledge the considerable work that has been accomplished by members of my staff. Jacquetta Van Zandt and Nadia Ullman conducted the primary task of reviewing all of the current boards and commissions todetermine the founding documents, determining as best as possible the appropriate number of appointees, advertising and recruiting for new participants, and communicating with existing board members to ascertain their interests to continue. Dolores Hamilton and the Human Resources Department coordinated and conducted numerous interview sessions. Nichol Fiqueiredo and Michael Tusino IV provided the communications necessary for the  recruitment of new participants and finally, Jennique Horrigan provided much of the coordination within the office to keep this effort on track. This monumental task would not have been possible without their dedicated efforts,” wrote the Mayor.

SOURCE could not find an advertisement for many of the City’s boards, committees, and commissions on the City’s website, like the advertisements posted for for License Commission, Traffic Commission, Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, etc.

The City’s public information officer Figueiredo issued a press release on the morning of June 1, announcing it was the last day to apply for City boards, committees and commissions.
