Robert Lewis Goodman, 86, Korean War Veteran, Cushing Task Force, and Framingham Town Meeting Member

FRAMINGHAM – Robert Lewis Goodman, 86, passed away on July 5 2018 in Framingham.

Born in Boston and graduated from the English High School in Boston.

His parents Barney and Fay owned the 1775 and the 1812 house restaurants where he worked as a teenager.

After graduation Bob enlisted in the Armed Forces and was a veteran of the Korean War.

After the war he attended RCA institute of NY and graduated 3rd in his class. Bob worked for IBM for 36 years as a Senior Systems Engineer.

In 1958 he met the love of his life, Margaret Mary O’Loughlin who came to the United States from the village of Liscannor, Co. Clare, Ireland. They married in 1960.

Bob loved the Town of Framingham and his community and he enjoyed working on many committees.

He was a Town Meeting member for many years.

He was president of the Greater Precinct 12 Association.

Bob was proudest of his involvement in the Cushing task force that resulted in a beautiful community park that he later enjoyed walking with his wife Maggie.

He was instrumental in the town of Framingham’s recycling program and also a member of the standing committee for Public Works.

Also active in the cleaning up of Sudbury River. Beside his community involvement, Bob’s other passions included camping, canoeing, hiking, sailing, and astronomy. He even built his own telescope. He loved his vacations on the Cape with his family. Later in life Bob enjoyed trips with his wife Maggie to Ireland and Venice Florida.

He was the son of the late Bernard and Freida Goodman, also brother to the late Raymond Goodman. Husband to Margaret for 55 years. He leaves his son David Goodman of Hopkinton and his wife Jane (Rathburn) Goodman and their three children, Charlotte, Cooper and Carter. Also, his niece’s, Susan (Goodman) Sullivan and her husband Richard of Ashland, Janet (Goodman) Brett and her husband Frank of Ashland and their children Teresa and Randy, and Karen (Goodman) Tolson and her husband Dominic of Sherborn. He will be missed by many in the community and his family and friends.

Relatives and friends are all invited to attend his funeral service on WednesdayJuly 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Norton Funeral Home, 53 Beech Street in Framingham.

Burial will follow at Edgell Grove Cemetery, 53 Grove Street in Framingham.

Visiting hours at the funeral home will be Tuesday from 5-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Robert’s memory may be made to the Charity of ones choice.
