FRAMINGHAM – Brazil needed to tie or defeat Serbia to advance to the final 16 in the 2018 World Cup, this afternoon, June 27.
Brazil, who has struggled offensively in this early group games, easily defeated Serbia 2-0.
When Brazil’s Paulinho scored at the 36th minute, it was the second celebration for Brazilians in Framingham.
The first was when South Korea shut out Germany 2-0, to kick the defending World Cup champions out of the tournament, earlier in the day.
Thiago Silvia’s header in the second half at the 68th minute secured the win for Brazil.
Brazil will now battle Mexico, who defeated Germany 1-0.
Game time is 10 a.m Eastern standard time on Monday, July 2
Brazil finished the group games with a record of 2-0-1, tieing Switzerland 1-1 in their first 2018 World Cup game.
