UPDATED: What You Need To Know About the 2018 World Cup

FRAMINGHAM – The 2018 World Cup soccer tournament begins today, June 14, 2018.

It is the most watched sporting event in the world, and will be on many televisions in Framingham, with Brazil one of the favorites to take the title.

The Tournament happens every four years, just like the Olympics.

There are 32 countries that qualified.

The United States did not qualify for the first time since 1986.

The favorites to win the 2018 titles include Brazil and defending World Cup champion Germany.

Others with a shot are Spain, Portugal, France, and Argentina.

Panama and Iceland are playing in their first Wold Cup.

The first game is today with host Russia battling Saudia Arabia at 11 a.m. eastern time. The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 9 a.m. today.

Brazil’s first match is Sunday, on father’s Day, at 2 p.m.

The final game is July 15.
