FRAMINGHAM – MassBay Community College golfer Nick Barber finished 37th at the 2018 National Junior College Men’s Golf National Championship at the Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.
Mike Badiani of Dedham finished 74th at the 2018 National Junior College Men’s Golf National Championship.
This was Barber’s second trip to the National Championship and he shot 90 – 77 – 82 – 78 over the four-day event, for a total score of 327 strokes.
On Badiani first trip to the tournament he shot 96-89-95-87 for a total score of 367 strokes.
Barber and Badiani competed against NJCAA Division III golfers from around the country.
Barber, a general business major from Wayland, won the Cranston tournament earning him a spot to compete at the National Championship.
At Chautaugua, he placed 37th out of 85 golfers who competed. This is his second year on the MassBay College golf team.
Badiani, a liberal arts major finished 5th at the Regional Tournament in Cranston and became the third golfer in MassBay history to quality for the National Championship.
“Nick and Mike had fantastic seasons from start to finish,” said Coach Slader Lyell.
“After winning the Mass State Championship, they competed very well at Nationals on a tough track in Chautauqua, NY. Nick is an awesome shotmaker that can hit it with anybody, and he had an incredible career at MassBay as a two-time National competitor,” said Lyell.
“Mike is as consistent as it gets with his swing, along with being invaluable as a teammate. I look forward to him improving and being hungry to return to the big stage next year,” said Lyell.
“They both represented MassBay extremely well, both from their play on the course to their character as people. They should both be very proud,” said the coach.
