FRAMINGHAM – On the agenda for tonight’s City Council meeting is a request from the Framingham Mayor to appoint a new Veterans Services Officer.
Veterans Agent Peter Harvell retired last year, and Assistant Veterans Agent Craig Sullivan has been serving as interim for the past 8 months.
Order 2018-054 before the City Council is a “request of the Mayor and Director of Human Resources to approve the Mayor’s appointment of Craig A. Sullivan as Veterans Services Officer and refer to the Appointments Subcommittee for review, report, and recommendation to the City Council.”
Yesterday, Framingham Source questioned the appointment of a City Veterans Agent in an email to the City’s Human Resources Director Dolores Hamilton and Mayor Yvonne Spicer, as the position was never publicly advertised.
The City’s charter and the City’s personnel bylaw requires that the position be posted for a minimum of 14 days. The position was not advertised.
Tonight, at 5:46 p.m. the City informed Framingham Source in an email it has withdrawning its request before the City Council for approval of the Veterans Agent.
The City issues this statement to Source: “After consultation with the City Solicitor, the Mayor and the Director of Human Resources withdrew the request of the appointment of the Veteran Services Officer. The Veteran Services Officer’s position will be advertised in compliance with the Framingham Home Rule Charter, Article IX: General Provisions, Section 15. Notice of Employment Vacancies.”
