Framingham Democrats Holding Remembrance Ceremony For Rep. Walsh; Then Meeting To Discuss Filling His Seat

The following is a press release from the Framingham Democratic Town Committee:

FRAMINGHAM – The Framingham Democratic Town Committee will be holding its May business meeting on Sunday, May 20, at the Community Room at The Framingham Green, 136 Maynard Road.

Please note that prior to this meeting there will be two very important programs.

From 5 to 6 p.m., there will be a campaign training session run by the Elizabeth Warren senatorial campaign for those interested in participating in the re-election of our senior senator.

From 6 to 7 p.m.,  there will be a remembrance ceremony for our departed Rep. Chris Walsh followed by a short reception.

The Committee will conduct a regular business meeting starting at 7 p.m. and will cover its usual business, but the meeting will concentrate on determining the most appropriate course to follow to select a Democratic candidate or candidates to be in the running for
the now-vacant House seat.

Town Committee Chair, Beverly Hugo, stated, “This is a heartbreaking event for those of us who knew and loved Chris as not just our
Representative, but also as a dear friend. We cannot fill his shoes in Framingham, but we must fill his seat in Boston.”

To facilitate the discussion, either Secretary of State William Galvin or one of his designees, and Democratic State Party Chair Gus Bickford will be in attendance. Hugo has asked that they attend so that any questions can be adequately addressed at the time of the discussion.

In addition to the issue surrounding the House seat, if there is time available, there will be a discussion and possible vote upon a name change to reflect the fact that Framingham is no longer a town, and several other bylaw amendments.

It is anticipated that various candidates for state-wide constitutional office, as well as county and regional office will be in attendance. They will each be given an opportunity to discuss their campaigns.

This month’s charity will be collecting new or gently read books for donation to the King Elementary School library.

The Framingham Democratic Town Committee normally meets on the third Sunday evening of the month at the Community Building at The Framingham Green, 136 Maynard Road, Framingham
