WESTFIELD – The Framingham State University women’s lacrosse team saw their ten game winning streak come to end Tuesday evening with a 12-8 loss to Westfield State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference action at Alumni Field in Westfield.
With the win, the Owls improve to 12-2 on the season and remain unbeaten in the conference at 4-0, while the Rams are now 11-2 on the year and 3-1 in the Conference.
The Rams took a quick 2-0 lead just under three minutes into the game on goals from sophomore Grace Gamache and freshman Alissa Marino, but the Owls came back with three straight to take a 3-2 lead with just under 23 minutes remaining in the opening stanza.
The Rams scored two straight including Marino’s second of the game to lead 4-3 with just over 11 minutes remaining. Alexa Tonelli tied the game at four before sophomore Nicole Pacheco put the Rams ahead 5-4 with seven on the clock. The Owls closed the frame with four straight including two more from Tonelli to take an 8-5 lead at the half.
The Rams pulled within one in the opening ten minutes of the second half on goals from Gamache and senior Kimmy, but two straight by the Owls pushed their lead back to 10-7 with just over 11 remaining. Freshman Hanna McMahon cut the deficit back to two, but the Owls scored the final two markers of the game to secure the victory.
The Rams received two goals apiece from Marino, Pacheco and Gamache, while Gamache and Pacheco added two assists apiece.
The Owls held a slim 37-36 edge in shots for the game and a 23-20 advantage in ground balls.
Junior Indigo Fox Tree-McGrath took the loss in net for the Rams while making 15 saves.
The Rams are back in action at home on Saturday when they host Salem State at noon.
