Why run Boston? “For me, running the Boston Marathon is beyond a dream come true. I’ve never been fast, but I’ve always had strength…I’ve never had superior endurance…but I’ve always had the heart to never give up. Where I once ran for pleasure, times, or validation, I will run Boston with the delight of serving an honorable charity. Dreams evolve into bigger dreams beyond what we could ever dream of; and in living your dreams, you just might be a part of fulfilling someone else’s dreams! May all your dreams come true!”
Which charity are you raising money for? Why? Metro West YMCA — As a young child I spent the majority of my childhood attending our local YMCA. My parents faced difficult time so I found myself joining the programs of the YMCA to be social, active, and to promote a more positive atmosphere than what was at home. As an adult I have volunteered as a coach for multiple sports programs such as baseball, soccer, and basketball. The YMCA has positively impacted my life to be the husband and father I am today. I love the opportunity to continue to promote the YMCA youth programs to excel today’s youths.
How did you first get into running? About 5 years ago I decided to challenge myself by running a half marathon. I always set high goals for myself and running long distance seemed impossible since I wasn’t born with the best athletic abilities. So, I decided to pursue a challenge, which became a hobby, which has now become a passion!
Why do you like to run? The enjoyment to run outside and absorb God’s creation. I also like to set personal goals for pace, distance, and fitness.
What is your goal for the 2018 Boston Marathon? To enjoy the experience of the marathon, specifically the crowd, the history, and the city. Pairing up with a charity has allowed me to have a goal to support the future youth in the area!
Tell me something about your training for the marathon: I love to eat pizza after a long run!
How do you stay motivated when you don’t want to run? I reflect on the reasons I am running. I think about all the people who have supported my goals and dreams, and I reflect on the many lives that I am encouraging along the way!
What is your favorite pre-running meal? PANCAKES!
What shoes will you wear on Marathon day? I wear blue Nike Vomero!
Will you wear anything personal or symbolic the day of the 2018 Boston Marathon? I will wear my BOSTON STRONG bracelet I bought shortly after the Boston Bombings on 04.15.13 to remember the 3 lives lost that day and the many others who were injured! I will also proudly wear my YMCA singlet in support of the Metro West YMCA!
